Brayman Construction has been working diligently through the Months of March and the beginning of April and some significant progress is being made on the construction of Abutment #1, Pier #1, and the river Piers. You will see more and more activity on the river as crews work to complete construction of the cofferdams prior to the environmental calendar restrictions that have been placed on the contract to protect the Spotted Darter inhabiting the Allegheny River.
Crews from Brayman Construction are welcoming the change in season and the arrival of spring weather. Working on the River through the winter, especially this past winter, has been very trying and difficult. The icy temperatures and concern for ice floe has slowed progress somewhat on the river piers, however significant progress has been made on the construction of Abutment #1 (Freeport Rd Side) and Pier #1. You should see concrete rising from the ground as crews form/place concrete in the abutments. The piers and abutments will have an aesthetic block appearance which will be stained to look like natural stone once the formwork has been removed and the concrete has been cured and cleaned. The new Hulton Bridge will be an aesthetically pleasing river crossing which will provide a grand entrance into Oakmont.
Brayman Construction labor forces have been slowed somewhat by Winter Weather, however, with a tight schedule, work proceeds. Construction of Abutment 1, Pier 1 (Land) and Pier 2 (River) proceed during a month where mother nature has done her best to stymie Brayman’s river operations. Due to a concern for thick ice floes identified further north along the Allegheny River, Brayman Construction has concentrated efforts in the areas protected by 12 mile island and the back channel, and have taken advantage of the time constructing drilled shafts at Pier #2, the first river pier off of the Harmar approach. Take a look at the photos below taken from the project time-lapse camera placed along Route 28!
